Named after a herd of elk that had winterized there, Elk Ridge has been known not just for its elk but for its scenery and friendly communities. Although only founded in 1971, Elk Ridge did not become a city until the end of 2000. Since then it has been home to around 3000 residents. In Elk Ridge, residents experience family-oriented communities and a rural feel, while located not too far from more-populated cities.
The city offers plenty to do for residents and visitors. Every summer, the city hosts the Elk Ridge Celebration, 2 days of activities for the whole family including a parade, enticing foods, various games, and a carnival. Although the celebration only occurs once a year, there’s so much to do the rest of the year, such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling. And with other large cities so close by, residents are never bored.
Since the city is new, adult and child recreational programs are offered through the city of Salem. Programs such as tennis, basketball, fishing, wrestling, baseball, hunting, dance, and soccer are great ways to keep active and get to know the people in the nearby communities.
Elk Ridge may be a small city, but it’s one to get out and discover. You can really enjoy the naturistic feel here. If you’re looking for an escape from the crowds and traffic of the busier cities, break away to the serene city of Elk Ridge.
