In the mid-1800s, a couple of residents from Payson ventured out and discovered a very advantageous land that had a useful stream and plethora of trees. Originally settled as “Pond Town,” Salem was incorporated in 1886 and currently is home to 8,000 residents. Since 2000, Salem has grown more than 200%. With real estate appreciation increasing more than 17% annually, now is a great time to buy a home here.
Salem’s biggest event of the year here is called Salem Days. Held in early August, Salem Days hosts an impressive parade, delicious barbeque and other eateries, a car show, movies in the park, a fun run, a dutch-oven cook off, multiple contests, and an incredible firework show.
All year round, the Salem Pond is a refreshing place to hangout and visit. During the holidays, the Pond Town Christmas is a must see with the pond decked out in holiday decorations.
If you are interested in recreational programs, the city of Salem has a variety to choose from, such as basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, cheer, urban fishing, and dance. They offer these programs to both kids and adults, so everyone can participate in the fun.
Salem is part of the Nebo School District. They have a preparatory academy, pre-kindergarten, and several public schools to choose from. The class sizes are smaller, giving your children more attention and a personal education.
Although less well-known, Salem is a town you should visit. Hang out at the local pond, grab some lunch at Parley’s Place, and enjoy the beautiful views of the mountain landscape.
